'Rainbow Roll Orchids' - 5th September 2026
WHAT?
Discover the beauty of botanical lino printing while learning the vibrant rainbow roll technique. Inspired by the elegant forms of orchids, you'll design and carve a single lino block before exploring how to ink it with multiple colours to create beautiful graduated blends and ombré effects.
Throughout this guided three-hour workshop, you'll learn the fundamentals of lino cutting before moving on to the exciting process of colour blending directly onto the roller. As the inks merge across your printing block, every print becomes slightly different, creating rich transitions of colour and unique variations with each impression.
You'll be guided through every stage of the process, from developing a strong botanical design and safely carving your lino to inking and hand-printing your finished artwork. Along the way, you'll gain confidence with lino cutting techniques, learn how different colour combinations interact, and discover how subtle changes in inking can completely transform the mood of a print.
WHY?
This workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to build their lino printing skills while exploring colour in a fresh and expressive way or for a beginner who wants to learn lino cutting. The rainbow roll technique creates striking, professional-looking prints without the need for multiple blocks, making it an ideal next step for beginners and a rewarding process for those with previous lino experience.
Whether you're new to printmaking or looking to expand your creative toolkit, you'll be supported throughout and encouraged to experiment with colour, composition and mark-making.
By the end of the session, you'll have a vibrant orchid print to take home, along with your hand-carved lino block so you can continue printing and experimenting with different colour combinations in your own time.
